Hello and welcome to this, the very first issue of 'WINDMILL WONDERLAND', the fanzine that worships at the altar of anything and everything to do with Leamington Football Club; past, present and future. The original title for this fanzine was going to be 'Lets All Meet Up In The Year 2000', but it was decided to 'pulp' that idea and go for 'Windmill Wonderland' instead (hereinafter 'WW'), we hope that the readers like the eventual choice of appellation. You will see that we have made use of the former in one of this issue’s article's titles.
This particular issue has been put together by just a few dedicated fans, but hopefully our enthusiasm will prove to be contagious and YOU will get yourself involved in future issues. Please feel free to write or e-mail the Editor with all your brilliant ideas, criticisms and (most importantly!) contributions for the next appearance of WW. You will find the necessary details on the back-inside cover of this fanzine. We're sure that as you read through this inaugural issue, something will spring to your mind and you will be galvanised into action! Basically, the more input we get from YOU the fans out there, the more regularly we can issue WW, and therefore help make a difference for the club, and ultimately — ourselves!
All the donations that the Brakes fans have paid for WW, will be handed over to the club, with the express wish that the money goes toward ground improvements at 'The New Windmill' (hereinafter 'NWG'). Every little bit helps, so if you can afford to give more than the minimum one pound donation, please do so and donate whatever you can afford. As you will see, this fanzine is entirely unofficial, but we do hope that it meets with approval with those running Leamington Football Club. As with the official LFC website this publication is put together by someone with a great love of the Brakes, who lives away from the region. Because of this geographical impediment, he is unable to get up to worship at the Mecca of football with any great regularity, he relies entirely on friends, still in Warwickshire, to send him news of the Brakes. Along with other sources, such as the Internet, and also by gaining information via being a minor Shareholder and paid-up 'Friends of LFC' Vice President at the club, your Editor has cobbled together what you hold in your hands now. This represents his dedication, love and on-going help toward Leamington Football Club's future success.
As a way of signing off this first 'introductory editorial', we would like to dedicate this issue to the men who kept Leamington Football Club alive between 1938 and 2000. We hope that you enjoy this fanzine, because without you, WINDMILL WONDERLAND would not be here celebrating our footballing HOME. Thank you then to the dedicated few, and especially to Mr. Brady and Mr. Hucker. This fanzine would like to be the first to propose that the first Stand with seats that appears at the 'New Windmill Ground' be named after you. Would our readership agree with this idea? |
